I am attempting to write my first script. Any suggestions on where to begin? Software? How to protect my idea?

I have the title and basic theme/plot

In general a story or script is copy written the moment the author writes it. When to prove that that happened can be be done any number of ways. There really isn`t as much theft as new authors are paranoid to think. So don`t worry about it.

As far as software is concerned just use Microsoft word and format like any script. You can find scripts all over the internet and use one as a template in formatting to write you own.

Titles however can not be copy written, so your title can be used by someone else or vice-versa. You idea should be written out first as a synopsis which is sometimes called a treatment. It is this that producers sometimes look at first.
